ANIMAL FARMING IS DRIVING CLIMATE AND ECOLOGICAL BREAKDOWN
Animal agriculture contributes around 18% of global emissions.
It uses 83% of global farmland, while only contributing 18% of calories.
Almost half of all plastic in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch consists of nets from the fishing industry.
To end the climate crisis and achieve justice for animals, we must transition to a plant-based food system.
WHAT IS ANIMAL REBELLION?
Animal Rebellion is people from all walks of life demanding the UK
government end the destructive animal farming and fishing industries, and transition to a just, sustainable plant-based food system, the only food system that can minimise the risk of climate breakdown, halt mass extinction and avert social collapse.
Through mass civil disobedience, Animal Rebellion seeks to spark widespread conversations about the government's inaction towards the climate crisis and the destructive animal farming and fishing industries. As we encourage millions of people to support the idea of a plant-based food system, the government will be forced to take urgent, transformative action.
We share the same demands as Extinction Rebellion and the 'Rebel Alliance':
1. Tell the truth: Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and
ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the
urgency for change.
2. Act now: Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce
greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.
3. Beyond politics: Government must create and be led by the decisions of a
Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.
Animal Rebellion believes that for these demands to be met, they must each comprehensively address the impact of the animal farming and fishing industries, and the need for a plant-based food system.
OUR PRINCIPLES & VALUES
We are an anti-speciesist movement, that has a shared vision of change.
Creating a world that protects beings of all species, for generations to come
We set our mission on what is necessary
Mobilising 3.5% of the population to achieve wider system change, including a transition to a plant-based food system - using ideas such as “momentum-driven organising” to achieve this.
We need a regenerative culture
Creating a culture which is healthy, resilient and adaptable.
We openly challenge ourselves and our toxic system
Leaving our comfort zones, to work in alliance with multiple movements, and take action for change.
We value reflecting and learning
Following a cycle of action, reflection, learning, and planning for more action.
Learning from other movements and contexts as well as our own experiences.
We welcome everyone and every part of everyone
Working actively to create safer and more accessible spaces.
We actively mitigate power
Breaking down hierarchies of power for more equitable participation amongst all beings.
We avoid blaming and shaming
We live in a toxic system, but no one individual is to blame.
We are a non-violent network
Using non-violent strategy and tactics as the most effective way to bring about systemic change.
We are based on autonomy and decentralisation
We collectively create the structures we need to achieve our vision and mission. Anyone who follows these core principles and values can take action in the name of Animal Rebellion.
